Furry Fridays: The Nautical Owl

This Furry Friday features the sweet Megan and Jarvis!!!

Some back story about my little man:
His name is Jarvis (Jarsopholus if you're feelin' fancy, or JarJar if you're spunky) and he is 8 months old.

He is named after Ironman's butler.He is a bulldog mix. Mix with what? We haven't a clue. Our best guesses are doberman or pitbull.

Unfortunately our baby boy is diagnosed with malabsorption - a disease that affects how his body breaks down food to use its vitamins. This is a continuing saga while learn and adapt to his dietary needs. We are training him to become certified as a canine good citizen which means he can become a therapy dog or do other charity work with me. His favorite thing is to do is snuggle with mommy or his brother Hank. And of course, do outfit posts!

Jarvis Pupdate: His tests came back negative for parasites and his vitals are stable. Our vet believes he has malabsorption, which is a genetic disease where his pancreas doesn't make the enzymes needed for him to get nutrients from food. This explains all his symptoms, most notably his lack of weight gain. Unfortunately, the blood panels needed to confirm this is $231, not covering the enzymatic treatment. Little guy has been switched to a high-protein/high-calorie diet until we can move forward with making him better.

Kitchen Remodel (Part 1)

These are the before shots of our kitchen (well, Jonathan had started a little demo before I reminded him to take the before shots!). I'm sad to say but the disorganization featured in these pictures is pretty standard, don't judge. 

So, our complete kitchen remodel has begun. The kitchen was one room in our home we haven't touched (other than daily use of course) since we moved in. The cabinets are cheapy wood which are not worth the time or energy to fix and are painted a horrible red. The layout is not working for us and the lack of workable counter space is a daily frustration. Let's talk about the main reason a redo is needed, a dishwasher! Currently, I'm using a portable one that needs to be wheeled across the room to use. Very annoying. With the current cabinets there is no way to add a dishwasher without loosing all of our usable lower cabinet space. Aside from the dishwasher reason, we also find the cabinets have lots of wasted space and hopefully our new design will resolve that. We are creating a new back entry way into our home. The current back door opens into the top of our basement stairway. I have nightmares of little children or elderly relatives falling down the stairs when walking into our house. It needed addressed. Reminder, the kitchen is only the sub-floor now since we removed the old tile to discover this!

So for the next couple week, months?? you'll get some little updates on this awesomely exciting project for us!!! I can't wait to have the kitchen done!

Jalopy Showdown 2013

This past weekend was the annual Jalopy Showdown at  Latimore Valley Campgrounds. It was threating rain all day but it held off for event amazingly. I didn't take many pictures this year but check out last year's (Jalopy Showdown 2012) post for more about the event.

What's been happening in my life lately and with some Instagram shots from the month! (follow me @bforbecky)

DUDE, May is flying by! It's already the 15th and I have yet to do my April review. Craaazy!

Reading: Still on the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series. (In May) I just finished up the last one! Those books were total awesomeness.

Watching: I've finally watched Downton Abbey! My mother in law went on a trip to England and one of her stops was at the castle were Downton Abbey was filmed. My husband and I watched the first couple episodes in honor of her trip and got hooked!

Listening: Iron and Wine's new album Ghost on Ghost came out in April and like with any new jams of mine, I'm listening to it on repeat. 

Crafting: I assume you all saw the Snack Attack dress? 

Offline: A complete kitchen overall began this month, when it will end no one knows! My birthday!
