Book worm

Even with my work/ school/ domestic goddess schedule I still try to fit some time to read for pleasure. I did start a book club this year, but the book club selections have been lacking in awesomeness! Here are my latest reads (in the order I read them) and the reviews by Becky:

City of Bones by Cassandra Clare.
This book started my young adult fiction obsession 2011. Demons, people who hunt them, cute guys and other things that go bump in the night. It's a must read.

City of Ashes by Cassandra Clare.
Apparently I liked the first book because I ran to the library to get the next one. Also a must read.

I Am Number Four by Pittacus Lore.
Yes, there is a movie and I saw it after I read the book. Aliens are on earth to hide from the evils that destroyed their plant. There are nine of them and they can only be killed in order. This is the story of number Four. I liked it. I was in the middle of the Mortal Instruments series (the two books before) and this one came up on my library reserve list before the third Mortal Instrument book, so maybe that's why I wasn't blown away but it was worth the read. Also, Husband said this was the best movie he has seen in awhile!

City of Glass by Cassandra Clare.
The third book in this series and in was totally annoyed with the main character Clary. Seriously! She was such a whiny baby in this book. Ugh.

Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro.
This was our first book club selection. Clones made to donate their organs to people. It was a promising story line but it failed! It was boring and the word "carers" creeped us out. 3 out of the 6 book club members finished the book so that is how lame this book is. Oh, and the movie is just as unawesome as the book.

Big Stone Gap by Adriana Trigiani.
I am still wondering how I picked this book. Totally random. West Vaginny girl who was born and raised in coal country discovers her father was not really her dad. Her mama got knocked up before before leaving Italy. This girl then loses her mind sells all her shit and plans to go to Italy.... But maybe I shouldn't tell you the ending. So I would only recommend this book if you are PMSing.

Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare.
I discovered Cassandra had another series started so I thought I would check it out even though that last book pissed me off. This series has the same demon hunters but this book was about a shapeshifter. Interesting. I would recommend it. Maybe even more than the first series.

The Heart is a Lonely Hunter by Carson McCullers.
Ugh. This was our second book club book. So we are 0 for 2 on good books for this club. I shouldn't have it on the list because technically I didn't finish it but it is horrible. 1/8 book club members finished it. Sad!

City of Fallen Angels by Cassandra Clare.
So the third Mortal Instruments book left me with a bad taste in my mouth but a gave it another go with the fourth book. I liked it better than the third and the ending was a total cliff hanger so get ready for the fifth one in another year!!

I take college courses along with working full time. This term I added an extra course to my already full schedule. I am struggling to keep work, fun and domestic goddessness in an even balance, but that is hard work! I have had this crazy schedule for a month now, it's surprising how fast time can go by. Oh, and I've only cried twice! Ha.

Really corporate America?

Today is not only Administrative Professionals Day, it is also National Walk at Work Day! Who comes up with these days? Why do we need a national day of walking during work hours? I just don't understand.

Music of the month

My iPod is about to revolt because it is sick of playing the same jams over and over and over. Here are the albums that have been on repeat.

The Decemberists The King Is Dead. I love the Decemberists and I have played out all of their albums since forever. They are coming to Philly in June and I scheming how to get out of class that night. Why do all the best concerts happen on week nights. Seriously.

Iron and Wine Kiss Each Other Clean. This album is much more gritty then the past albums. I dig it. They played in Philly last Thursday. Again with the week night concerts. Sheesh!

Ray LaMontagne and the Pariah Dogs God Willin' and the Creek Don't Rise. Damn that was a long title. This is my folk jams. It makes me feel like I could maybe like the same music as my hippie and/or country friends, but I know that is a lie to myself.

Arcade Fire The Suburbs . I know I wasn't the only person extremely excited when they won the Grammy for best album. Wasn't I?!?

This lame house

Sometimes I feel that home ownership is overrated. We purchased our home in July 2010 and the to-do list is outta control. Here is some of my current list and this does not include large things like new floors or kitchen!

1. Put up a fence. This is the biggest thing to accomplish to contain our miniature monsters.
2. New front door. Our current front door is a ugly steel door that was spray painted red. Yes, spray painted. The style and color do not fit the 1930 cape cod we own so it has to go.
3. Paint the bedroom. Only two and a half (my living room mural is a WIP) rooms have been completely painted since moving in and the bedroom is up next. I asked for its completion for my birthday. Who knows when that birthday wish will come true.
4. Paint the office.
5. Plant grass. In front of our house th previous owners had a mulch garden goin on. Well that is horrible so we gots to get grass going.
6. Plant plants! Also need some purrty flowers out front to use up some of the mulch mountain area.
7. Veggie garden. I have my raised garden box from our last residence but I had to abandon the soil. So I have to round up some soil and fertilizer by last frost.
8. Clean out the FROG. That stands for finished room over garage. When we moved in everything went into the garage. Now I realized how much junk we have that I don't want in my house.
9. Yard sale or flea market. To sell the junk in the garage.

Ugh. The Stets' are going to be very busy for quite sometime. Too bad we can't get more accomplished due to our school schedules....

The hair battle

I have been trying to grow my hair out for over 6 months now. I looked at pictures from over the weekend and I am totally over the hair. I cut blunt bangs two weeks ago and they make me look too young. I was at my grandparent's house on Sunday and I noticed a picture from last summer with my short hair cut. I want it back. Tonight I will be chopping the locks off with the goal of Jessica Stroup style above.

Jcrew lust list

Jcrew currently has 30% off their clearance section. Here are some items I'm considering adding to the wardrobe.

This Studded leather belt is cute and I am hearting the gold studs.

I love the Frou dress because of the ruffles.

The Leighton dress is sexy yet flirty. I just love the silhouette.

I have been eyeing up these Collins peeptoes since the first time I saw them in the catalog.

These Pom-pom ballet flats want to be on my feet. Period.

The weekend

Easter weekend. Friday night, dinner and a movie with the husband. We went to see Water for Elephants. I loved it and the movie totally lived up to the book. Beerhunt with friends on Saturday. Sunday we had lunch with husband's family and egg hunting and dessert with my family. Only wish we had was that we could have spent more time at home. The house needs a deep cleaning. Maybe next weekend...

hello moto

My iPhone 3 had a sad accident last week so I just up graded to the iPhone 4. Now the media is saying the iPhone 5 will be released at the end of the summer, just my luck.

Anyways, since my old phone was slow and always angry I hadn't looked into what fabulous apps had been out on the market for quite some time. I downloaded a couple photography apps that I am quite thrilled with.

Diptic - allows you to combine multiple into one.

Hipstamatic - takes photos with different vintage film camera styles.

Instagram - great photo editing effects. Plus you can publish your photos directly to the social media sites.

Camera Bag - vintage camera photo effects.
