1000 Steps

1000 Step trail section of stairs

The "top" of the trail. The 1000th step. This was not the last step though!

This weekend Jonathan and I took the camper out for it's first camping trip (more on that to come)! On our way home we stopped for what we thought would be a quick hike on the 1000 Step trail. I didn't think that the trail would literally be 1000 man made stairs. I thought it was more of an exaggeration, like when people say "OMG that was like a thousand steps I had to climb!" but really it was two flights of stairs. I say that all the time, like when I skipped taking the escaltor in the subway and looked up to see two flights of stairs ahead of me and realized why everyone was waiting in line for the escaltor. It was like a thousand stairs! I thought that until I did this hike because this was over one thousand stairs made of stone. It was. We walked up 1000 plus man made stairs from the bottom to the summit of the mountain. The stairs were originally made by miners to get to the top of the mountain and has since been maintained by the state. It was a pretty intense hike, like walking on a stair master for 45 minutes. The view was beatuiful once we made it to the top. Also on the top of the mountain was an old building formerly used for a railroad or mining business that we explored. And porcupines. We saw a porcupine, but he was a sleep thankfully.
