Life Lately

What's happening in my life other than matching my ice cream choice to my skirt:

- I'm finishing the 50 Shades of Grey Trilogy. Go ahead and judge me, I'm cool with it. I had to see what all the fuss was about.
- Planning my road trip vacation but I can't make any decisions. Plus I can't imagine leaving the fur ladies for that long soooooo I'm putting it off.
- I'm the only person alive who didn't watch the Olympics this weekend. I was busy watching the ocean instead.
- I can't wait for a nice boring weekend. Remind me not to make any plans, okay?
- Totally living on sugar from the beach, caramel popcorn and salt water taffy. The snacks are half the reason to go!

Wall Mural Continues

The wall mural I began three years ago when we moved in is slowly getting more color. I drew it, I started painting and I was quickly over it. I'm finally into it again so I try to paint a little section a night. The progress is slow but it's getting done so everyone can stop bugging me about already.

Leather

I've always said I would probably join a group like PETA if it wasn't for my love of leather. One of my favorite things is a quality leather handbag. My suede lined Marc Jacobs still smells like fresh leather inside and you know what, I do stick my head in there and smell it. I mean I can't deny I my thing for leather since I have a cow hide rug on my living room floor.

Lately I've been playing around with hand made leather accessories. I get to make some cute things and the added bonus of the quality leather scent while I'm creating. Maybe if my leather handling skills improve I can even start a little accessory line. We will have to wait and see.

Camping Close to Home

The family went camping this weekend. Funny thing is the campground that we stayed at is 12 miles away from our house so it was a tiny escape from reality.

What happened over the weekend:
We ate lots of food including 4 pounds of bacon.
The fur ladies were attacked by 2 different mutts that were off their leashes. There is a leash rule at campgrounds for a reason people!
The brother in law stayed on his own primitive site in a location we coined as "tent city". He said he had a private beach.
Lots of "crick" sittin'. "Crick" is the redneck way to say creek. We allowed ourselves to call it a "crick" for this weekend only.
I rode a bike, on a mountainous trail even.
We watched a lot of hippie TV, aka campfire.

Jonathan on Dumb Sh*t

"That's dumb shit if I've ever heard dumb shit."

I can't even tell you what this comment was about but I will forever remember it's awesomeness.

Shut the Front Door

I love my little cape cod, but there are many minor and not so minor changes I would like to make so I never have to move again. I hate moving. I also hate my front door. I probably hated that thing the moment I walked up to it. It's a standard steel door, you know the kind that is plentiful at the local big box home improvement stores. The last owners even added a little flare by spray painting it red. The color is fine but the paint job was less than stellar. Add in having to throw your body weight into the door to open the sucker, the whole situation pissed me off I rarely even use it.

The fun thing is I bought a new front door the weekend we moved into the house. I bought it at one of those seconds type places where they get random home improvement stuff. So it was great and solid wood and the style I wanted. Months go by and Jonathan never installs my new door. Then it turns out he isn't going to install this door because it is a weird size, probably why it was at that seconds store. Three years later I'm still nagging him about a new front door.

We've special ordered a fancy new door and now the installation is in process. It's too good to be true. Now what color to paint my favorite new door??

Sauerkraut Makin'

I'm attempting to make sauerkraut. This process can take up to 6 weeks so I can't tell you yet if I was successful or not. Anyone who knows me in real life or even on twitter would see that I was blasting about my new awesome summer work schedule. I work four 10 hour days and I have Fridays OFF. For three whole months I have three day weekends. With this new found free time I found myself browsing Target for 2 hours and driving out of my way to go to an Amish garden stand. At that stand I bought two of the largest cabbages I've ever seen for $1 each! So now I have to do something with this cabbage. Enter my desire to make sauerkraut. Most people find the food gross but for some reason I heart it big time. Now I will have a foermenting jar of cabbage chillin' somewhere in my house for 6 weeks. I'll let you know how it goes.

Jonathan on Eating Nature

"How are you ever going to be a gypsy if you don't know what wine berries are?"

As he picks random berries on our walk through the park.

Too Hot for a Hike

Last weekend we ventured out for a hike in 95 degree weather. Maybe not the smartest thing we ever did but whatever. We hit up a letterbox on the journey and found some sweet bouldering rock formations. We talked to a climber on his way down about the rocks and he said it was some 'sick shit'. After the hike though I don't know if I could handle hiking up there, climbing then hiking back down. I'll have to try out my endurance sometime when the weather is cooler.

Harry Potter and the Mini Cooper Killer

Of course you know when I started my new job I also started a longer commute. Then entered a new ride for my longer commute and also I started listening to audio books to distract from said commute. Everything since has been going wonderfully. I love my job, I don't mind the commute and I've been blowing through books that have been on my reading list for years. Well, until that one day. I was driving through a construction zone, which to Pennsylvanians is no big deal because the roads in this state seem to permanately be 'under construction'. Then I hit a patch and I was literally air born out of my seat. My poor little mini is slammed into a hole and the noise it made I thought I was going to have to be towed home. Amazingly my car was left with little damage. I had to have an alignment, blah blah blah. That's not what this story is about. So the next morning on my drive to work I try to eject the 14th disc of the very last Harry Potter book. My cd player made a horrible noise. I try again and again, the cd won't eject. Jonathan investigates and he discovers that this is a common problem. When low mini coopers which certain suspension systems hit wicked bumps the disc can come off the track in the cd player and become jammed. It couldn't be a classic cd jammed in my car. It couldn't be a cd THAT I OWN jammed in my car. No, it is a random part of the fucking Harry Potter series that is owned by the local library jammed in my car. Now EVERYTIME I start my vehicle I hear "Hello Neville, we got your message." I have yet the time or energy to take my car into a dealer to get the shit taken out so I have to deal with that stupid welcome every time I start my car.

One Hot Weekend

Dude, this weekend was hot. It started off with Friday being 100 degrees and the heat wave continued the rest of the weekend. Plus we had a super busy weekend. Friday night we went to see Hoots and Hellmouth play in Harrisburg. This is our second time seeing them live and they rocked it but I felt everyone around me was hot and stinky.
Saturday our friends hosted a free electronic music gathering in the park AND I also was babysitting! I had my niece along so we kept her entertained with walks in the park and flip moves off Uncle Jonathan. Also ice cream. What kid sleep over doesn't involve ice cream?
Sunday J's mom hosted a delicious brunch which we ate inside to hide from the heat.

Hope everyone had a cool weekend. What did you do to beat the heat??
