Roadtrip Guest Post: Chrissy from My Dear Watson

While I'm driving thousands of miles pulling my mini camper with my husband, I asked some friends to share some of their road trips stories and tips! Here is Chrissy with advice on being a good road trip companion. Enjoy!

i was super excited to be given the opportunity to visit you all here at the B today and super duper excited when becky asked me to write a little something on the topic of ROADDDDDTRIPS!  *raises the roof*
if you've ever visited me at my blog my dear watson you'll know that i love thrifting.  so you can imagine my heartbreak and frustration knowing how many great antique and thrift stores are lining our highways and small town main streets and me, with no licence.  whaaaa!  so when a friend agrees to be my driver/thrifting partner/general partner in crime for the day it is up to me to be the best professional passenger i can be.
professional passenger duties include;
  • maintaining optimal volume and song choice on the radio/stereo in order to keep energy levels up (whitesnake, anyone?)
  • providing interesting conversation topics (example: how adorable are becky's dogs?  so adorable!)
and most importantly,
  • ensuring everyone is well hydrated and full of yummy goodness
one of my favorite treats for both roadtripping and thrifting is a great rolled oats bar which keeps you full, full of energy and tastes fantastic.

you will need:
1 1/2 cups of flour
1 1/2 cups of quick oats
1 cup of brown sugar
1 1/2 tsp baking soda
3/4 cup of margarine
1 cup of jam (raspberry is really good and sticky for this recipe)
  1. stir together flour, oats, brown sugar and baking soda.  cut in margarine until mixture is crumbly.  press 2/3 of the mixture into an ungreased 9x13 pan.
  2.  spread the one cup of jam of your choice over top.
  3.  sprinkle remaining crumbly mixture on top.
  4.  bake at 375F for 25-30 minutes.
  5.  cool and cut into bars.
of course, a professional passenger always ensures there are enough wet wipes to go around after these delicious but sticky snack bars.  and purell for those musty thrift shops one finds while road tripping.  ;)
my thanks to becky for having me here today!  let's hope her vacation is going well with lots of sweet treats and even sweeter adventures.
