The winter blues rescue: A happy little collection

art2 art1

I'm kinda dealing with the winter blues over here. It's dark when I leave for work, it's dark when I get home from work. I now have to bundle up and wear tights with all my cute skirts. It's making me grouchy and home girl does not like that!

So, here is a little collection of mine that always makes me smile and kicks my blues (winter blues that is) away. These small little paintings fall in with my love of all things miniature. I just love how the painting wraps around the canvas and the little details of my largest original, like paper cut outs used for the leaves and fabric used for the clouds. I first found the PA local artist Lisa Arkus at Harrisburg's riverfront ArtsFest a few years ago and I bought only a print. Hey I was fresh outta college and super frugal! The next year I bought the little bird painting and when I went back the following year she was not there! Majorly bummed. I looked for her every year since and luckily I rediscovered her when I went to the Mt Gretna Arts weekend this year. I finally bought the large original I wanted for all these years.

What items or activity help you beat these nasty winter blues?

  1. I have a painting in my house that has the same effect. I bought it off the street in Paris a few years ago. It was the last time I would be visiting Paris while I was living in England and I just fell in love with the painting. Every time I look at it, I smile. Oddly enough, the painting is mostly the same bright blue as is in your painting! I guess sometimes we need a reminder that the dark days will eventually lead to pretty blue skies!

  3. I so understand the winter blues. Because of my commute last school year, it meant that I didn't see light before I left and it was gone when I got home. It just stinks :(

I received the headband in the mail and it was so cute! I love the elastic you put on it too because the thin elastic will never keep things in my hair.

  5. I'm with you, winter can really put me in a foul mood. I find a girlie movie and hot tea the best medicine for a blue day.

  6. Haha home girl- I liked that. And these paintings are sooo pretty- I love the details in the bark. What helps me kick the blues is chunky cable knit sweaters and hot apple cider. When I snuggle in with those then I'm almost glad it's cold...almost.
