I had just started living with my new boyfriend Matt (now happily married). Literally just moved in less than a month earlier when we were in our local pet store and I spotted my little lovie. She was the tiniest thing ever.... 1 pound and 2 ounces asleep in her food dish. I instantly fell in love. I had to have her. I asked to hold her and we went into the "play area". She wandered over and started nibbling on Matt's toe... of course he fell in love with her too. How couldn't he? We held her and talked about how this little chocolate pup would forever change our lives. She sure did! We decided to name her Lucille after our favorite movie"Cool Hand Luke". There is a classic scene when Paul Newman and the chain gang are digging with their pick axes along side the road and a saucy little lady comes out of her house to wash her car and taunt the poor convicts with her lady bits. I know.... weird story but we liked the name and later it became Lucy or Lu Lu. Lucy has been with us for a little over 10 years and 6 moves including our "Big Move" from Columbus, Ohio to Austin, Texas where we have spent the last 5 years with her in our new home.
Lucy has been through some tough times in the past.... getting very ill from eating the corner of a foam cushion from our couch. Note to owners: Polyfil and foam that is used in some cushion's can be deadly if ingested. We also found out that Lucy has a genetic liver disease called Hepatoportal microvascular dysplasia (MVD).. We have to be very careful not to feed her any food scraps and we monitor her diet very closely. Lucy has always been naturally small but her weight stays around 5 pounds...she is our little pocket o' love. We take her everywhere with us. Her favorite spot is Mustang Island where she can chase the seagulls and play with the crabs. When she gets tired or cold she buries her little head under our necks and makes little lovie noises. She has never been much of a "barker".
Lucy has changed our lives and has brought us closer together. We are a happy little family and are very blessed that she has come into our life. If you would like to find out more about our little Lu Lu and our wonderful life in Austin please visit my blog at
