Furry Fridays: Stay Gold, Autumn

FurryFriday-1
Brought to you by Steph and Becky!
Or should we say Feathered Friday! Today we have Autumn and her feathery friend Cosmo!

My name is Autumn and my feathered friend is Cosmo, a cockatiel.

My husband travels a lot, so when we moved cross country where we knew no one, we decided it was the perfect time to get a pet.  We researched many options and even brought home a rescue dog for a trial period, but we couldn't find the right fit for us.  One afternoon, we had a conversation about Devin's grandma, who has been a bird lady since she was a child.

A week later, we ended up bringing a very quiet bird home that we ended up naming Cosmo.  Now he mimics my laughing, says "wikki wikki wikki", makes R2D2 noises, catcalls, and makes up his own versions of songs we have tried to teach him. He demands head scratches and he adores the attention children give him.

Our house is much noisier than it used to be, but one of our favorite things is seeing how Cosmo has developed such a quirky personality.  I have to remember to take all of the bobby pins out of my hair before I put him on my shoulder because otherwise he strips the plastic off of them.  He loves eating anything made out of paper and he only wants the food we are eating (even after we give him his own cereal or chips).

I love our bird and I can't imagine having any other pet.  I don't think that birds are the right animal for everyone due to other household pets, their long life spans (especially for the bigger birds), and some people's "allergy" for the noise.  However, Cosmo has been the perfect option for us.  My suggestion would be only to get a bird if you know someone else who can take care of them if something happens because they become so bonded to their caregivers.

Cosmo is a little bird with a big heart.  We're so happy to have him!
