Furry Friday: Okay Allison

Brought to you by Steph and Becky!
Today we have Allison and her super cute 'grand-pup' Whitney!

This is myself and my grand-dog Whitey. Although he is not technically "MY DOG" (he belongs to my mother) he is mine, since he is the progeny of two of my dogs, Piddle and Chivo. Whitey has a personality that cannot be ignored, much like myself, so perhaps that's why I chose to highlight him out of the SIX dogs currently living at the house I share with my parents.

Whitey, or Y.D. (short for Young Dog, apparently he's in the rap game) is a Chihuahua/Terrier mix, with one crazy tooth askew right on his lower jaw. He looks basically, like a drunk old redneck, a rather shifty used car salesman, or the most adorable creature on all times.

He does the most adorable things which includes what I like to call the "One-And-A" where he does sort of a half-hearted jump to attempt to get on top of something (couch, chaise, bed) but will do said wimpy jump about six times before he puts in a full effort. He can accomplish it on the first try, believe me. He also tells YOU when you're done petting him. He will SHOVE his head or body under your palm until you get to work.

I love him so much because I can see both his parents in him, and since I love them so much, my heart can only burst for Mr. Y.D.

What's blowing my mind lately

Man, what's been blowing my mind lately are old people! Well, anyone that is past retirement age. I know 60 is the new 35 or whatever but I'm going to be a jerk and say they're old.

Here's why they're blowing my mind:
- Some of the older generation that I know are always complaining about their lack of free time. It's like, dude, you can do whatever, whenever. You have no one to answer to but yourself. If you don't have any free time to learn how to play the guitar which has been a life long dream of yours, then do it. Cancel the every other Wednesday lunch date with the other old people down the street and take a guitar lesson.

- Mo' Money Mo' Problems. If you can go to the bank and they had you a check to buy a vacation property no questions asked then don't complain about your lack of funds. We are just starting out over here and like most young people we are getting by but write out some big checks monthly to student loans and what not. Your house is paid off, you only pay cash for every thing, you gots money so stop complaining!

- These old guys, they have too many hobbies! Maybe you don't have any free time (see #1) because you have more hobbies than JoAnn Fabrics! You fly helicopters, you rebuild classic cars, you breed dogs, you have a passion for landscaping. How about you pick your favorite and stick too it!

- Stuff! I know I will be just as bad when I'm an old bitty, but man old people have so much stuff! Plus if you go to a public sale most of the other bidders are old people. It's like you probably don't need more stuff fellow retirees. Some of these people I know have double if not triple of everything! Cars, boats, trailers, campers, motorcycles, houses, bikes, really anything I can think of. Settle down! You have too many hobbies as it is!

This all started when I watched my neighbor wash his car which is maybe one of his favorite hobbies. You know how many times I've washed my car this year? ZERO! Ain't no body got time for that!

(This post is in no way about said neighbor. I know some elderly people are on a fixed income, I know that and I know some of them. I'm just saying that rant was about some of these elderly folk who I know and make me a little frustrated, and let's be honest a little jealous because aren't we all just really excited about retirement?!?!?)

Furry Fridays: The Nautical Owl

Brought to you by Steph and Becky!
This Furry Friday features the sweet Megan and Jarvis!!!

Some back story about my little man:
His name is Jarvis (Jarsopholus if you're feelin' fancy, or JarJar if you're spunky) and he is 8 months old.
He is named after Ironman's butler. He is a bulldog mix. Mix with what? We haven't a clue. Our best guesses are doberman or pitbull.
Unfortunately our baby boy is diagnosed with malabsorption - a disease that affects how his body breaks down food to use its vitamins. This is a continuing saga while learn and adapt to his dietary needs. We are training him to become certified as a canine good citizen which means he can become a therapy dog or do other charity work with me. His favorite thing is to do is snuggle with mommy or his brother Hank. And of course, do outfit posts!
Jarvis Pupdate: His tests came back negative for parasites and his vitals are stable. Our vet believes he has malabsorption, which is a genetic disease where his pancreas doesn't make the enzymes needed for him to get nutrients from food. This explains all his symptoms, most notably his lack of weight gain. Unfortunately, the blood panels needed to confirm this is $231, not covering the enzymatic treatment. Little guy has been switched to a high-protein/high-calorie diet until we can move forward with making him better.

Kitchen Remodel (Part 1)

These are the before shots of our kitchen (well, Jonathan had started a little demo before I reminded him to take the before shots!). I'm sad to say but the disorganization featured in these pictures is pretty standard, don't judge.

So, our complete kitchen remodel has begun. The kitchen was one room in our home we haven't touched (other than daily use of course) since we moved in. The cabinets are cheapy wood which are not worth the time or energy to fix and are painted a horrible red. The layout is not working for us and the lack of workable counter space is a daily frustration. Let's talk about the main reason a redo is needed, a dishwasher! Currently, I'm using a portable one that needs to be wheeled across the room to use. Very annoying. With the current cabinets there is no way to add a dishwasher without loosing all of our usable lower cabinet space. Aside from the dishwasher reason, we also find the cabinets have lots of wasted space and hopefully our new design will resolve that. We are creating a new back entry way into our home. The current back door opens into the top of our basement stairway. I have nightmares of little children or elderly relatives falling down the stairs when walking into our house. It needed addressed. Reminder, the kitchen is only the sub-floor now since we removed the old tile to discover this!

So for the next couple week, months?? you'll get some little updates on this awesomely exciting project for us!!! I can't wait to have the kitchen done!

Bits of Becky: April

What's been happening in my life lately and with some Instagram shots from the month! (follow me @bforbecky)

DUDE, May is flying by! It's already the 15th and I have yet to do my April review. Craaazy!

Reading: Still on the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series. (In May) I just finished up the last one! Those books were total awesomeness.

Watching: I've finally watched Downton Abbey! My mother in law went on a trip to England and one of her stops was at the castle were Downton Abbey was filmed. My husband and I watched the first couple episodes in honor of her trip and got hooked!

Listening: Iron and Wine's new album Ghost on Ghost came out in April and like with any new jams of mine, I'm listening to it on repeat.

Crafting: I assume you all saw the Snack Attack dress

Offline: A complete kitchen overall began this month, when it will end no one knows! My birthday!

Hey- I've gotten an email from a reader about not being able to comment on my blog!!! Anyone else having issues with this?? If so hit me up so we can fix this problem! ---->

Furry Fridays: Amanda and Chuck

Brought to you by Steph and Becky!

Furry Friday is a little different today! We have for you one of my (Becky) bestest real life friends, Amanda and her furry man Charlie. Amanda has been wanting Charlie's handsome face featured here for awhile now and finally he's here!!!! Enjoy.
Hey I'm Amanda and more importantly this is Charlie. He's a handsome guy. Charlie is a Blue Heeler/Australian cattle dog from Prineville, Oregon. He has traveled across the country with my boyfriend and me to live in the East Coast. He goes by Charlie and Chuck. Charlie herds humans if people move past him too fast and that also includes humans on bicycles. When he was a puppy, he bit a moving bike tire and got pretty tore up. Through the accident he lost a canine tooth but luckily he is fine today. He is friends with Becky's fur sisters even though they annoy him with their constant barking when they are at his house.
He gives great puppy hugs, will occasionally bite table legs when he gets nervous, majorly haaaates baths and does some cute morning puppy stretches (seen above). That's my Chuck. Thanks for letting me share his furriness with you!

Amanda does not blog but can sometimes be seen on B is for Becky.

Snack Attack Dress

Most of my April sewing time was spent on one fancy project for a friend. My friend Lottie wanted a snazzy frock to wear to the Sledfest event and for a photoshoot she was having at Old Sled Works. I think the dress turned out fabulous and well pretty much amazing like Lottie herself.
I can't take all the credit for the creation because I did make Lottie slave away in my dining room sewing factory that was in place over the weekends Jonathan was traveling!!

Fabric is Midnight Snack from Alexander Henry

Sledfest 2013

Sledfest was held at Old Sled Works (remember) the other weekend. The event was supposed to be about cars, with some vintage and music in the mix, but it was really about the ladies. They held a "Sled Queen" contest where all the pretty dolled up ladies competed for the title. I did not compete but my friend Lottie did, and her dress was pretty amazing. Details on that are to come.
